The Good Life Group: training that changes lives

The Good Life Group: training that changes lives

Collaboration, Compassion and Ambition 2019 - 4th December 2019
50 minutes; 11:50 and 13:20

The Good Life Group is a COSLA award-winning group of adults with learning disabilities who came together to take action to make life better for themselves and their peers. They have evolved into a focused, user-driven action group, delivering innovative, on-going training programmes for health and social care professionals, people who use services and carers all over Scotland.

The training is designed and delivered by learning disabled people and utilises scenarios, based on forum theatre, which allows participants to be spectactors, engaging with and intervening in the action.

  • A professional audience can practice solving service problems and gain instant, supportive feedback from people who use services.
  • An audience of people who use services is encouraged to identify problems with service provision and learn how to take action to achieve change.

This workshop will include an overview of The Good Life Group and give delegates the opportunity to take part in two training sessions: one designed for service professionals and one for people who use services.

Workshop participants will understand:

  • The power and impact of training delivered ‘from the horse’s mouth’
  • The benefits for service provider agencies and for people who use services

The Good Life Group will share their knowledge and expertise, enabling delegates to replicate this approach in their local areas.

This workshop is by The Good Life Group and West Dunbartonshire HSCP.
